Apples in a Jar

If you’ve been a part of the blogosphere for a while – either as a blogger or as a reader – you’ve no doubt heard of oats in a jar.

If you haven’t, you’ll be so glad you read this post, because now you have! Oats in a jar basically refers to a neat trick to make yourself the yummiest oats ever.

When your nut butter is nearly out (i.e. you have to scrape the sides of the jar to get any goodness), just pour your breakfast oats into the jar and eat straight from there. The heat from the oats will melt the remaining butter and mix it in with your oatmeal and – trust me – it tastes AMAZING.

Well, I wanted my usual apple and peanut butter snack, but it was cold out and I needed some warming up, so I sliced up my apple and sprinkled some cinnamon on and then popped it into the microwave.

Bingo! Baked apple slices. I then wanted some peanut butter but the apple slices were too hot and soft to dip. As my peanut butter was nearly donezo, I thought: cha-ching! And I dumped the whole load of apple slices into the jar.

Sure enough the peanut butter melted into the apples. For better pictures and ease of eating, I poured the concoction into a bowl and munched away.

Please don’t tell me if someone else has already done this. I like feeling like I’m inventive ;).

If you haven’t done it then you must! My mid-afternoon fruit snack has never been so delicious!

1 tsp cinnamon
1 nut butter jar, nearly empty!

1. Place apple slices on a plate, sprinkle with cinnamon.

2. Microwave for 2 minutes.

    • Yay thanks Brittany! Just remember to let the apples cool a little so we don’t repeat the grand melting jar incident of 2011 haha!

  12. Very creative, yummy idea!! Adding some nutmeg or apple pie spice would also be delicious!

  13. That’s actually a pretty good idea, especially with natural nut butters when there is that hard bit at the bottom that never quite mixes with the rest of the butter.
