Better-than-Ice-Cream Chocolate Protein Shake

Hi all!

As I am still recovering from eye surgery, things are a little blurry over here (literally), so I have to use today’s post to direct you over to Naturally Sweet Recipes, where yesterday I guested! As soon as I can see again I’ll update this post with the recipe. (**UPDATE: I added it! I hope it doesn’t have too many typos. Still not seeing very well!)

And yes, there you will find the most DELICIOUS chocolate protein shake I’ve ever made. I am so addicted to this I’ve been having it on a daily basis for weeks now. I promise you it tastes just like melted ice cream. Ridiculous. See? I even tweeted about it the first day I made it, I just couldn’t believe how good it was:

It’s actually good for you too! Cocoa powder provides the chocolate flavour and we all know the benefits of cocoa powder! Sure, I could be using my protein shakes as a chance to  get in extra fruit or veg by having a green smoothie or a fruit shake, but I get lots of produce elsewhere in my diet and to be honest, I go through phases like this where I love something so much that I scarf it down and then later on I am so sick of it I have to completely abstain from it for weeks before I love it again.

Am I the only one like that? Yikes.

Anyway, have a great day! I’ve lined up a post to take care of you on Monday and then who knows, maybe by then I’ll be able to see again to post (I have a back-up post lined up just in case I can’t…promise!).

Tastes-Like-Ice-Cream Chocolate Protein Shake (originally posted in my guest post on Naturally Sweet Recipes here)
INGREDIENTS (serves 1):
1/4 cup low-fat canned coconut milk
1/4 cup nonfat Greek yogurt
3-5 ice cubes
1 scoop protein powder (mine provides 24g protein a scoop, so if you use one with less/more protein adjust the nutritional info accordingly)
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1-2 stevia packets (to taste) or liquid sweetener of choice (1-2 tsp agave, honey, maple syrup etc)
DIRECTIONS:
1.      Add everything to a blender and blend till smooth! It’s that easy. Enjoy!
*Note: if you want to get a breakfast-sized shake at about 250 cals, just increase the coconut milk and Greek yogurt to 1/3 cup each and leave everything else the same!

  1. I hope you’re feeling okay after your eye surgery! Hopefully your vision returns to ‘normal’ again real soon 😉 And I cannot waaait to try that protein shake, love the addition of coconut milk! Will be trying soon for sure 🙂 Take care!

  2. Feel better soon!!! Eye surgery sucks big time…I’ve had a fair few myself. Hope you recover quickly though and feel better soon. Shake looks awesome too btw…can’t wait to try 🙂

    • I appreciate it – why have you had to have so many surgeries if I may ask? Did it not work for you the first time? Or is this more injury-related and not for laser eye correction?

      • they weren’t actually vision related surgeries. I had an eye that turned outwards so had to have the muscles shortened to fix the problem. But the first two times were when I was quite young and my eyes drifted back over the years. The final op I had a couple years ago went well and all is corrected. I should have been more clear! How are you healing anyway? xo

      • Not at all! I was being nosy, my apologies – but glad that all of your surgeries worked out! I had the protective contacts just removed a couple of hours ago so my eyes are fairly painful again. It’s weird to explain but because the surgery reshapes your cornea, the contact lens they put over it in the surgery to protect it creates a smooth surface, so when they remove it the surface is bumpy again and that’s why it feels irritated and a bit painful. But that should go away in a couple of days – the good news was they checked my eyes out and said everything looks like it’s healing fine so that’s good! Thanks so much for asking :).

  3. Aww feel better soon Anne! Such a great idea with this shake too, and I love that it is a bit healthier 🙂

    • Thank you Brittany! No headaches as I have my eyes closed a lot 😉 in the odd moments of clarity I’m responding to comments on this blog or on Facebook but with the font turned to max and I still am prob making a bunch of typos so forgive me.
