My name is Anna.

I’m 26 years old.

I was born and raised in the Cayman Islands, and moved to Vancouver, Canada in January 2010 after studying at UBC in Vancouver for four years.

I also lived in England for a short time as a teenager (my  extended family all live there).

I love Vancouver but am often homesick so go back home at least once a year. We maintain a home there but it’s rented out full time so we tend to live like tourists on our island when we go home, and I have no complaints about that.

When I say “we” I mean my family – I live with my mom Pat; my sister Katherine and her husband Jon live in Calgary and we visit often. My father passed away of cancer in December 2008. He was the best dad and man you would ever have the good fortune to know.

The picture below is from our only family photoshoot, in 2004. So I’m a mere 19 years old…so crazy how time flies.

I love yoga. I take every opportunity to go into a yoga pose, sometimes obviously (I got lots of weird looks for the photo below) and sometimes discreetly (try doing mountain pose when waiting in line; you’ll feel so much better by the time you’re done waiting!).

You’ll always feel better after doing a forward fold and a quick sun salutation and if you’ve never chanted om – as crazy Zen as it sounds – you need to. It vibrates through your whole body and makes you feel so much better.

I love flow, hot, hatha and yin yoga. Heck, I also enjoy Pilates, Anusara-inspired yoga…there’s a type of yoga to match your mood any day of the week.

I love the environment at my local YYoga so that’s where I choose to practice (and if you’re ever in Cayman, Bliss Living Yoga is run by two fantastic ladies) but there are many studios and it’s all about finding the right one for you.

I’m a worrier by nature but have brought this way under control partly thanks to yoga, spirituality/religion, life experiences, friends, mentors, my business…I believe in eternally learning from your surroundings so I am constantly trying to live the paradox of being happy with who I am while constantly striving to be better. I think that’s healthy.

I do my very best to take time to stop and smell the roses, because life moves pretty quickly.

I have three ginger cats who are adorable and amazing each in their own unique way. I grew up with cats but discovered a couple of years ago (after acquiring all three of these ginger boys) that I have developed moderate to severe allergies to their dander. So I sleep with an air purifier in my room and suck it up :).

From left: Bart, Bill, Ben. Bill and Ben are brothers, adopted from Burnaby SPCA in Canada. My dad named them after the 1950s British cartoon Bill and Ben the Flowerpot MenBart we adopted from the Cayman Islands Humane Society. They’re all adorable lovemuffins!

OMG your three ginger cats are so cute together! So striking.

What a lovely bio– touching! I’m also a big yoga fan though have struggled to maintain at-home practice since moving away from my former studio.

All the best! Looking forward to reading your blog!

    • Thanks so much, you’re very sweet. My ginger boys are adorable, I love them to pieces! It’s hard when you move away from a yoga studio, I quite like one close to where I live now (we just moved in September) but it’s not as good as my last one and I miss it so much! However, I’m still trying out a few others in the area so fingers crossed – it’s all trial and error! Thank you for stopping by my blog! x

  4. Hey Anna, so glad I found your blog, though it took me a little while! I’m new to the whole yoga thing — I just started doing heated yoga about three weeks ago — but already cannot get enough of it! I even woke myself up at 5:30 to make a 6 am class the morning I was leaving to head back to school and spend 13 hours driving to North Carolina! I look forward to reading more of your blog!

    • You’re so kind – thank YOU for finding me! And congrats on getting up that early, that takes some motivation! 🙂

  5. I am so happy to have found your blog, I love it! 🙂
Vancouver is one of my favourite cities, and I hope to live there one day. ( for now I’m in victoria)
As a fellow yogi-lover i agree YYoga is a great studio.

    • Thanks so much Laura! Well, you’re just a hop skip and a jump away so I’m pretty sure you’ll be in Vancouver soon! As my birthday is Canada Day I spent it in Victoria this year and it was tons of fun – love your city too! Nice small town feel which I loved as it reminds me of my home country, which is equally small :).

  6. Just came across your blog from Jen’s WIAW. Love the blog!! You have such a great spirit! I think it is so important to imbrace the world around you, stop and take it all in. Too many people flow through too quickly and overlooking all the little things life presents you!
    Can’t wait to read more!

  11. Visiting your blog via Peas and Thank You. You have a beautiful blog! I’ve just started finding the beauty in yoga.

    • Aw thank you so much Jamie! Yoga is awesome, I’m not a die-hard yogi in that I go every single day because I tend to burn out fast doing things that way, but I always keep it in my exercise rotation and every class I discover something new. LOVE that!

  12. I just start yoga and I’m falling in love with it. I think it’s awesome that you do random yoga poses for your photos. =D
